The legend say that before being put to death he sent this woman a greeting that she signed "From your Valentine," an expression which is still used today.
It doesn't matter what the true story is; it is clear that this man's appeal was like a sympathetic, heroic, and, most importantly, romantic individual. During Valentine's hopefully the lovers we've encountered are only as effective as otherwise much better than Saint Valentine himself.
